OUR EVENTS AND FESTIVALS

Bill Monroe’s Birthday Celebration
September 13th, 2010 – September 13th, 2011

Kick-Off/Media Event –Bluegrass Expo at the Homeplace - September 30th, 2010
Our very talented young people will pick and sing at the very place young Bill began to learn and love music, where the Bluegrass sound began. Media, the Monroe family and other VIPS will be invited for an afternoon of music and special tour of the Homeplace. Youth will be joined by local Bluegrass groups and perhaps nationally known Bluegrass family performers.

Mandolin Madness
Search for beautifully decorated 8 ft. mandolins outside attractions and businesses. Read historical facts about Bill Monroe and Bluegrass beginnings. Enter a drawing for a great prize if you see them all!

Bluegrass Events and Festivals
Ohio County’s regular annual events and festivals will feature even more Bluegrass and fun activities to remember Bill Monroe.

Bluegrass Images Photography Contest/Exhibition
See the exciting results of a nationwide photo contest with a bluegrass theme. Or, send in a photo yourself! Details soon.

“Beginnings of Bluegrass” Songwriting Contest
Send in a composition or enjoy performances including original songs with content relating to the history of Bluegrass and the Rosine/Jerusalem Ridge area. Details soon.

Homeplace Life Day - September 10, 2011
Take a trip to the Monroe family farm and experience what it was like for the young Bill. With costumed guides making butter and soap, shoeing a horse, playing with gourd-tops and offering an old fashioned snack, there will be lots to see and do.

September 11, 2011
Observe Sunday with a reverent afternoon tour of the Rosine Methodist Church where Bill Monroe’s funeral was held. Enjoy a gospel service and some sweet gospel music at the Rosine City Park.

Birthday Party on the Lawn - September 13, 2011
Birthday Have a piece of the biggest Bluegrass Birthday Cake ever to celebrate Bill’s 100th birthday. See who’s there to blow out the candles and jam the traditional way. Hear the strains of the mandolin and fiddle floating over the wooded hills of Jerusalem Ridge – and wish your very own "Happy Birthday" to Bill Monroe at this family–style party.
